NICHOLAS MEDLOCK

 

Nicholas Medlock/Matlock is said to have been born on March 16th 1709/10 Hanover County VA.

Nicholas is also believed to have married Mary Shelton. Nicholas died 1801 Burke Co NC.

The first records of Nicholas that have been found at this time was from the “Accounts

from the Store of Thomas Partridge and Co”

Nicholas and his family had left Virginia and had moved to Granville County NC by 1757.

 

1757 May 7 Benjamin Ryan sold to Nicholas Medlock 200 Acres on Tabbs Creek Both of Granville.

Jurors: Robert Allison, Carter Hudspeth, John Hampton, Malachia Reeves, Joseph Langston, James Willis, Nickless Matlock, Giles Hudsepth, John Tuder, Michael Wilson, John Stainbock, William Wilson, John White, Before Samuel Henderson " Coroner" Verdict: That said Henry Matlock appear'd to have shot him self by accident and that no Person nor persons did kill him, and that he did not lay violent Hands on himself " Ret to Jany Ct 1771 Id. Thomas Thompson of Louisa County Va.15 Oct 1777, for 300 Lbs proclamation money one certain tract of parcel of land lying in the county aforesaid on both sides of Tabb's Creek where the old trading Path crosses it, beginning at a Pine the south side of the said creek, then turning S 15Deg e 180 poles to the center of three white oaks thence N 75 Deg 180 poles to a black oak thence N 15 W 180 poles to a red oak thence S 75 W 180 poles crossing the said creek to the first station containing 200 Acres more or less. to Thomas Thompson of Louisa County Virginia 15 Oct 1777, for 300 pound proclamation money, in which one tract or parcel of land lying in the county aforesaid lying on both sides of Tabb’s Creek where the old Trading Path crosses it. Nicholas Matlock. Wit Abner Tatom, John Thompson, James Jett. Granville County November Court 1777. Nicholas Matlock acknowledged this deed to be his act and deed.    Little is known about Henry Matlock.

 

   In 1762 Henry was listed on the Ragland Tax List in

   Granville Co NC. In 1768/69 From Colonial and State

   Records of North Carolina; March 24, 1769; (Vol.22,

   p.487-488): "Received pay from Co. Robert Harris

   Granville Regiment of Militia, Granville Co., NC for

   service protecting public peace at Hillsborough, North

   Carolina in September 1768. John Matlock, Samuel

   Matlock, Nicholas Matlock, Henry Matlock.

 

   Henry Matlock died in 1770. (History and Genealogies

   Justice of the Peace in and for said County, Richard

   Medlock, an applicant for a pension under the Act of

   7th June 1832 and who being duly sworn deposeth and

   saith in addition to the former statement contained

   in his Declaration hereto annexed, to-wit: that he

   has a record of his age which was contained in the

   Bible owned by his, affiant's, father in his

   lifetime but which Bible is now in the possession of

   Notley Thomas, the brother-in-law of affiant and

   which shows that he was born in North Carolina 1761.

   He states further that he is acquainted with the

   Reverend William C. Reynolds and John Rogers who

   have testified to his character, etc. in his

   declaration and the affiant is acquainted with Lewis

   Click, Esq. all of whom reside in his neighborhood

   and many others who would, if necessary, testify as

   to his character for varacity their belief of his

   service SWORN to and SUBSCRIBED before me the 16th
