This Indenture Made this fifteenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and
seventy nine by and Between John Matlock of the County of Birke(?) and state of
North Carolina of the one part and Zachariah Smith of the County of Henry and
state of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Matlock for
and in Consideration of the sum of Ninety five(?) Pounds Current Money of
Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Zachariah Smith the Receipt whereof he
doth hereby acknowledge, hath Bargained sold and by These presents do bargain sell
alien and confirm unto the said Zachariah Smith his heirs and assigns forever one
certain Tract or Parcel of land lying on Fall Creek in the County of Henry
Containing by Estimation fifty acres be the same more or less and bounded as
follows to wit Beginning at a Red Oak in with line Thence to a Chestnut sprout On
the south side of Fall Creek Thence across the Creek to a ash spout Thence to a
white Thence to a white oak on the south side of the creek Thence across the
creek to a white oak on Journycans line Thence up to a white oak and Thence to the
beginning. The Reversion and Reversions and Remainders Right and Estate Interest
benefit claim and demand whatsoever of the said John Matlock of or in or to the same
or any part or parcel threof To have and to hold the said tract or Parcel of land and
all and singular the Premises of their appurtenances to the only use and behoof of
said Zachariah Smith his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Matlock doth
hereby for himself and his heirs Warrant and defend the same forever from the claim or
Title of any person or person whatsoever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my

To the honorable legislature of the State of South Carolina in senate and house of
representatives. The petition of the inhabitants of Greenville County. Respectfully
sheweth that your petitioners have been informed that attempts have been made to alter
the plan for holding the county court - a circumstance that has occasioned great
uneasiness to a majority of the inhabitants of Greenville County. Your petitioners
therefore request your honorable body to repeal any law that may inadvertently have
been made for the purpose of
altering the place of holding the county court or give such
relief as otherwise may be deemed necessary.
