Tragedy Provides
Common Bond for
Couple Wed Here
With the sudden,
tragic deaths of
their former
mates as a
common bond,
Mrs. Pearl
Hamilton
and Clarence
Matlock, both of
Cairo, were
married here
Tuesday, it was
learned today.
Both had
been recently
bereaved, Mrs.
Matlock last
October and Mr.
Matlock in
February. The
couple were
married Tuesday
afternoon about
5 o'clock at the
home of the
officiating
minister, the
Rev.
Allen Duncan,
520 West Rollins
street. They
were unattended.
With Mrs.
Matlock's 2
1/2-year-old
daughter,
Garnelle, they
are residing in
Cairo, where Mr.
Matlock operates
a grocery story.
The deaths which
took the husband
of the one and
the wife of the
other, were both
sudden, one
resulting from
an explosion and
the other from a
rare disease
traceable to an
infection among
milk cows. Mrs.
Matlock's former
husband, Garnett
Hamilton, a
substitute rural
mail carrier and
an automobile
salesman for the
Moberly Motor
Company, died
Oct. 5, last
year, of a heart
complication
resulting from
an attack of
undulant fever.
He was seriously
ill only a few
hours,
although he had
not felt well
for a month and
had been bedfast
three days. The
first Mrs.
Matlock,
the former
Nadine
Cottingham, died
Feb. 9, this
year, at the
Woodland
Hospital here of
burns
sustained
earlier that day
from flames
following an
explosion of
kerosene she was
pouring on a
kitchen fire at
the Matlock home
in Cairo.
