1814 Jan 4th This Indenture made this 4th Day of January in the year of our

Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen and in the thirty-eight year of

American Independence between Richard Medlock of the county of Hawkins and

State of Tennessee of the one part Charles Medlock of the County of Burke in

state aforesaid in the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Medlock

for one in consideration of the sum of Five Dollars to him in hand paid by

the said Charles Medlock at and before the dealing and delivering of the ???

Where of is here by acknowledged that grantee bargained sale convey and

confirmed and by these present Doth Grant bargain sell and convey and confirm

unto the said Charles Medlock, his heirs and ? forever one certain tract or

parcel of land composed of a tract of fifty acres lying and being in the

county of Burke on a fork of Cone Creek beginning at a mahogany tree above the

plantation and on the east side of the creek running West Xing the creek thence

South 20 chains to a stake at or near William McKenneys line thence East Xing

the Creek with said ? 20 chains to a sourwood tree thence north to the beginning

containing in the hole fifty acres together with all woods waters mines minerals

buildings orchards and improvements heredements and appurtenances to the said

land belonging or appertaining he the said Richard Medlock doth for himself his

heirs executors and Administrators promise and engage to warrant and defend unto

the said Charles Medlock his heirs executors and Administrators and assigns

forever in fee simply from the lawful claims  of all and every person and persons

whatsoever  In testimony where of the said Richard Medlock hath here unto set his

hand and seal this day and year first above written.. Sealed and delivered in the

1817 Hawkins County, TN Deed Book 7, page 95 & 96.

John Hubbard to Charles Medlock Regd 15th Oct 1817 this twenty day of January in

the year one thousand eight hundred and seventeen by & Between John Hubbard of

the County of Hawkins and State of Tennessee of the one part and Charles Medlock

of the other part of said State and County. Witnesseth that the said John Hubbard

hath bargained and sold unto the said Charles Medlock a Certain tract or parcel

of land in the County of Hawkins for the sum of three hundred dollars trade The

land lying on Shelbys Creek the Wateres of Clinch and bounded as follows. Beginning

at a sugar tree & two beeches on the side of a Ridge above a spring. Thence north

twenty west sixty six poles down Shelbys Creek to a beech hickory and ash on the

East bank of said Creek. Then north fifty seven East Two hundred sixty poles to a

black Oak & black gum and Chesnutt on the South side of Copper Ridge. Thence South

Twenty East Eighty four poles crossing the east fork of Shelbys creek to ansh and

Creek. Thence South forty nine west Two hundred and Sixty poles to the Beginning.

Containing one hundred and Eighteen acres be the same more or less which tract or

parcel of land the said John Hubbard will Warrant and defend from him and his heirs

and assigns and from all persons Claiming through by or under him unto the said

Charles Medlock and his heirs and assigns In testimony whereof I have heare unto set

my hand and seal the day and year above written. /s/

p. 143 MILLER [Adam vs.] MATLOCK: "143 Pleas before the Honble Abl [sic]

FINDLEY Judge of the Probate Court for the County of Jackson in the State of Indiana--

Be it remembered that on the 10th day of November A.D. 1834 before our said Court the

following cases were decided viz ...[two other cases]... Adam MILLER  Compt  vs } Upon

a claim Same   Deft  [same refers to Mathew TANNER adr of the estate of Charles MATLOCK

deceased]   Came the parties and the matters in dispute being submitted to the Court

after hearing the evidence the court is of opion that there is due from the Defendant

to the complainant the sum of one dollar sixty two $ an half cents   Therefore it is

considered by the Court that the complainant recover of the said defendant the said sum

of one dollar 62 1/2 cents to be levied [?] of the Goods and chattels of the said

decedent in the hands of the said administrator Yet[?] to be administered[?] together

with his costs in this behalf expended[?] and the defendant in mercy[?] &c[?] But

execution not to you[?] until after the7th Dec next."
