MONROE COUNTY
Comment:
This
William Matlock, is the son of William
Matlock of Roane County, TN. William Sr.
was born about 1753/1755 in VA and was
found in Roane County, TN about
179?
until 1822. William Jr. first married
Nancy Kitchen 29 September 1801 in Knox
County, TN; bond was made by Wm. Matlock
Sr. William Jr. married second Sally
Walker 3
January 1803 in Roane County, TN. He
moved to Monroe County, IN about 1812
and many
of his brothers moved to the same area
of IN.
Some researchers believe that the
William in this will is the William
Matlock who
is the
father of John Shepard, Rosannah, Jesse
and Mary Matlock and others. By
the
census listed below we can see that this
William is a younger gentleman than
my
William Matlock. William and Sally are
in Monroe County, IN 1830 census as
11111-2001; his age being 26-45. Sarah
is listed as widow in 1830 living next
to
one of
her sons. The father of Jesse, Mary and
John Shepard and others would have
been
about 70 years old.
My copy of this will is so hard to read;
lots of black areas where I could not
read the
words. However, where the names of the
children were listed is very
clear.
Sorry about the rest of it. If anyone
has a good copy I'd sure appreciate
a copy or
have someone to just fill in the
blanks.....Wanda

records
Morgan County, Indiana
Note: William MATLOCK'S will was filed
in Morgan County, Indiana but no record
of the actual will can be found.
According to this Court Order book and
the deeds that were made; there WAS a
will. The will book is either missing
or the page is either missing. A friend
of mine searched and searched for the
will on film while she was in Salt Lake
City, last year (1999), but could not
find it. Notice that William MATLOCK
was not referred to as Sr. on these
minutes.... because his son William
preceded him in death. Also, there were
several deeds made to his children in
the division of his property in Morgan
County, IN after his death.... Wanda
