HOPEWELL FRIENDS HISTORY 1734-1934         Frederick County, Virginia

         CHAPTER XV PLACES OF MEETINGS

page 228

WRIGHTSBOROUGH was on Town Creek, 16 miles from Appling, in McDuffie Co., Ga. On July 3, 1770, the general assembly of Georgia granted to Joseph Maddock (or Mattock) and Jonathan Still a tract of 40,000 acres of land in St. Paul's Parish, to be held in trust for the Quakers. Here they began their town, which they named for Sir James Wright, governor of the colony

1792, 10, 1 George Matlock rocf Haverford MM, dtd

1794, 7, 7 George Matlock gct Haverford MM

The above means that George in 1792 received a certificate from the Haverford (PA) monthly meeting. He attended which was a sign of his devotion as well as the fact he was a contributor.  Quakers were very big on Public contributions.  So when they moved they need a certificate from their old meeting place to be eligible to attend the newer place of venue-home.  So in 1794 George Matlock was still attending in the Haverford area  as he was granted another certificate from there.  We can assume that he was now in Frederick Co and wished to attend the Hopewell MM.
