HENRY COUNTY
Woodrow Edward Medlock of Murfreesboro, 93, died at his residence on Tuesday,
April 4, 2006. He was a native of Paris, Tenn., in Henry County. Visitation
with the family will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bellwood Baptist Church, where
the funeral service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 10 a.m. The
service will be officiated by a video of Pastor Medlock, with memories by
current Bellwood Pastor James Avaritt. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
Woodrow was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a devoted
friend to
all. He was a pastor and teacher for more than 70 years
and was
the founder
and pastor of Jesus Way of Life Church. He performed
weddings,
funerals and
baptized the multi-thousands. He was n humble man who
was
never too
busy or too tired, or the hour too late to go to someone
on need.
He was a
frequent visitor to jails, prisons and hospitals, as
many as five
times in one
day, locally, and in other counties and states. He and
his
wife, Ruth,
went on a mission trip to the poverty-stricken side of
Jamaica.
A
multitalented person who held certificates in insurance,
real estate,
auctioneer,
and reflexology, he was a gifted motivational speaker.
But his
greatest
desire was preaching God's word. His one last wish was
to reach out
to someone
lost and facing eternity without Jesus. In his early
days, he
preached at
Powells Chapel and Westvue Baptist Church, and
afternoons at
Patterson,
Wayside, Mt. Carmel, New Hope and Hoover's Gap. He was
pastor of
Bellwood
Baptist Church and Christian Academy for 40 years. He
donated the
land and was
administrator at the beginning of Good Shepherd's
Children's
Home. He was
a pastor in Bedford County before returning to
Murfreesboro,
where he
organized Jesus Way of Life Church and met at Rucker
Chapel for two
years before
moving to 2022 E. Main St., where the members purchased
the
church and
fellowship hall. Brother Medlock was a friend, and a
pastor who
served well
day or night, regardless of the hour. He was a mountain
of a man.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, Ode and Pearl Chandler
Medlock; son
Carl Medlock;
sisters Matilda Medlock Kelton and Willie Vona Medlock;
great-
grandchildren
Raven Star and Steven Heckler; and stepson Steve Cole.
He is
survived by
his wife, Ruth Templeton Cole Medlock; son Woody Medlock
and his
wife Kathy;
daughters Mary Underwood and her husband James, and
Sally Brown
and her
husband Roger; grandchildren Joann Johnson and her
husband David,
Bubba Medlock
and his wife Kate, Lydia Kelly, Josh and Thomas
Underwood,
Christy Bond
and her husband, Shannon Heckler and her husband, Steve,
and
Brittany and
Ashley Brown; four step-grandchildren, Crystal, Rick and
Justin
McCullough and Ashley Cole; 10 great-grandchildren and
14 step-great-
grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John Vaught, David
Johnson, Rick McCullough,
Ed Harrell,
Richard Johnson, Lee Rouelette, Billy Harvey, James
Naron, Shannon
Hines and
Eric Hines. Honorary pallbearers will be all the men
from Jesus Way
of Life
Church. Rucker Memorial Chapel is in charge of the
service. Woodrow,
Ruth and son
John Cole began their life together in an apartment over
the chapel,
known then as
Murfreesboro Funeral Chapel, owned by Woodrow and Woody
Medlock,
and they
wanted to say good-bye there.
