Fairforest - Nathaniel Medlock, 92, of 4266 N. Blackstock Road, died March 29,

1998 in Mary Black Memorial Hospital. A native of Ware Shoals, he was a son of

the late Harvey and Emma Gunnells Medlock. He was a former overseer in the

finishing department of Southern Bleachery and Print Works. He was a former

employee of Reeves Brothers and a maintenance supervisor with Spartanburg County

District 6 schools. He was a member of the Fairforest Baptist Church, Taylor's

Masonic Lodge, and Fairforest Ruritan Club. He was first married to the late

Hallie Black Medlock. Survivors include: wife, Esther Waldrop Souther Medlock;

daughter Willette Miller of Kernsville NC; sons, Evans and Richard Medlock of

Greer; stepson, Larry Souther of Spartanburg; sister, Gladys Williamson of Donalds;

Seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services Fairforest Baptist

Church 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. (Spartanburg Herald

Miss Victoria Medlock, 91, To Be Buried Today

Graniteville, SC – 7 April – Miss Victoria Medlock, 91, the oldest citizen of

this Section died today at her home. Services will be conducted today at the

Baptist church here tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 by Rev. O. E. Tebow, Rev. E.W.

Leslie and Rev. Thomas Walker. Miss Medlock born in Edgefield County in 1840

she was the d/o Van and Marina Perry Medlock. She moved to Graniteville in 1848

only 2 years after the founding of the village. Mis Medlock traced her ancestors

to the Revolutionary War they having fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill and

Yorktown. Her ancestors also followed Lee and Jackson in VA. She became a member

of the Baptist faith 65 years ago being baptized by Rev. Shaw

Silas Lanier Medlock, 64, town clerk and treasurer of North Augusta for 18 years

died suddenly yesterday morning at his home on 554 West Avenue, North Augusta,

SC. He was a native of Edgefield County. Funeral is this morning at 11:00 o’clock

at the North Augusta Baptist Church with burial in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. He

leaves his wife Lillian Marsh Medlock and sons Ralph of Atlanta and Arthur of North

Augusta; brothers Henry and Martin of North Augusta.

Medlock who died in Columbia yesterday after a lengthy illness, at First Baptist

Church at 5:30 with burial in Graniteville Cemetery. Survivors: daughter Mrs. Wilson

Franklin and granddaughter Vicki Franklin; sister Mrs. Mattie Timmerman; brothers

Perry Medlock and Frank Medlock . He was the husband of the late Ono Thompson Medlock.

Wilmer Perry Medlock of Augusta died at a local infirmary yesterday following a

long illness. Services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. from the graveside in the

Graniteville Cemetery with Rev. Clyde Hendrix officiating. A native of Graniteville,

Mr. Medlock had lived in Augusta for 25 years. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Eva Mae

Napier Medlock; 3 daughters, Mrs. Jasper Minor, Mrs. Florence LeGrone and Miss

Maburn Jeanette Medlock all of Augusta; 2 sons, Vance Perry Medlock of Augusta and

Andrew P. Medlock of Graniteville; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: W.W. Dodgen, John Dodgen, J.A. Woodward, Lloyd Ott, Clifford Watson

and Claude Randall. Remains at Posey Funeral home in Graniteville.

 

1974 Aug 3 Aiken, SC – Andrew P. Medlock of 3335 Auclose Road died at the Aiken

County Hospital. Services to be at 11:00 a.m. in Posey’s Funeral Home Chapel and

burial in Graniteville Cemetery. He was a mason and retired from the Graniteville

Company. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Minnie Hardin Medlock and stepmother, May Medlock.

Surviving also are his sons Buddy and William of Warrenville, Charles S. of Cornelia,

GA, Thomas T. of Pensacola, FL and Dale G. of Edgefield. His sister Jeanette Riggs

and brother Vance Medlock live in Aiken. Pallbearers are members of Masonic Star

1988 Dec 3 Graniteville, SC – Feb 4 – Frank Hampton Medlock died today in Augusta

County Hospital after an extended illness. Services are to be conducted on Monday

at 4:30 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with burial following at the

Graniteville Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Lisa Yaun Medlock and daughter

Mrs. Wilson Franklin both of Graniteville. His son is F. H. Medlock, Jr. in the

Navy and stationed in San Diego, CA. His brother is Perry Medlock of Augusta. Posey

Funeral Home in charge. Saturday 3 December 1988.

 

Charlie Medlock services will be conducted this afternoon from the Bethlehem Baptist

Church. He died at his home in Graniteville on February 28, 1934. He leaves his wife

Edna, three children, his mother E. Medlock, three sisters and four brothers.

Convalescent Center. She was a native of Graniteville but lived in Augusta 43

years. She was the widow of John T. Timmerman. Services at the Poteet Home

Chapel and interment at Graniteville Cemetery. She leaves a son A.P. Timmerman

of Augusta; brothers F.H. Medlock of Graniteville and Wilmer P. Medlock of

Augusta. Ralph Shea, pastor of Woodlawn Methodist Church will officiate

Mattie Thelma Minor, Mrs. Jasper Minor, of 106 Curry Street died Thursday in a local

hospital. The requiem Mass will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 at the Most Holy Trinity

with burial in the Graniteville Cemetery. She was native of Graniteville but had lived

in Augusta for the last 20 years. She is survived by brother Andrew Medlock of Aiken;

half-brother Vance Medlock of Aiken; half-sister Mrs. Roger Riggs of Gloversville;

step-mother Mrs. Eva Medlock of Augusta. Posey’s Funeral Home in charge.

W. Medlock, he was a retired textile worker, a member of Columbia Baptist Church of

lower Greenville county, and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his

wife, Mrs. Lela Scott Medlock, a daughter, Mrs. Nina Mae Cooley of New York City; 2

sons, Elzie R. V. Medlock of Spartanburg and Robert E. Medlock, Jr. of Columbia; 2

sisters, Mrs. Emma Knight of Anderson and Mrs. Janie Hill of Clinton; a brother,

Lewis Medlock of Princeton and a half brother, Ramsey Lollis of Greenville; 14

grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 3

pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Floyd Loudermilk, Timothy, Hottel, and

Mrs. Martha Ellen Settles Medlock, 84, died at her home on Martintown Road in Edgefield

County yesterday afternoon at 4:00 after a long illness. She was the widow of the late

George W. Medlock and a daughter of Edward and Ellen Thurmond Settle. She was a member

of Hardy’s Baptist Church. She leaves two sons Martin and Henry Medlock and a stepson

S. L. Medlock. Services will be conducted at the home this morning at 11:00 with burial

in the family cemetery near the residence. Pallbearers: Walter and Harry Bunch, E.L.

Fouche, H.W. Fouche Jr., Pierce and L.S. Reese.

Martin Edward Medlock died November 15, 1935 at the age of 15 years from an accidental

gunshot. He was duck hunting with his friend George DeLaughter and on returning he put

his shotgun into the boat butt first and it discharged. He is the beloved son of Mr.

and Mrs. Martin Medlock of seven miles Martintown Road.. Services at the Hardy Baptist

Church this Monday at 11:00 a.m. with interment at the church cemetery. He leaves his

parents; sisters Alice and Frances Medlock; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W.F.

Farmer Who Shot Himself Yesterday To Be Held Today.

Funeral Services for B. B. Medlock, 48, farmer of lower Greenville County who shot

and killed himself yesterday will be conducted at Columbia Baptist Church at 4:30

pm the Rev. Ben Davenport conducting. Mr. Medlock was said to be worried over having

three acres of cotton in excess of the quota. Federal men measured his cotton field

recently, ordering him to plow up the stalks on the three extra acres.

Coroner George McCoy will not hold an inquest. He was told by the family that he had

threatened to kill himself. The thought of plowing up cotton, of which he had a good

stand was evidently too much for him, said the coroner.

Mr. Medlock is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Medlock, the following daughters:

Frances, Marie, Estell, and Ruby Medlock, Mrs. J.B. Whitt and Mrs. Marie Chapman

and the following sons: Melvin, Lude, Vertie, James and Albert Lee Medlock; 2

sisters Mrs. Emma Knight and Mrs. Janie Hill; 5 brothers, Willie, Robert, Earl,

Lewis, and Audrey Medlock and 1 stepbrother, Ramsey Lollis.

Mary Medlock Thompson, longtime resident of Greenwood, SC, died on Saturday, May 7,

2005 at the age of 95. Born July 4, 1909, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late

Kate Bullock Medlock and James T. Medlock. She was a 1930 graduate of Lander

University and taught school briefly in Lowndesville, SC, before marrying William

Gamewell Thompson. She was active in the Lander Alumni and was honored with a

celebration of her 90th birthday with a surprise party given by her family at Lander,

which was attended by friends and members of her graduating class. A stone was placed

on the Memory Walk at Lander in her honor. Mrs. Thompson was a partner in running a

family business, The Washerteria, and was actively involved in school, church,

politics and civic activities. Mrs. Thompson was a devoted Christian throughout her

life. She loved God, her church, family, friends and her community. A lifelong member

of Main Street United Methodist Church, Mrs. Thompson served as a Sunday school

teacher in both the adult and children?s classes and was a member of The Upper Room

Sunday School Class. She was very active in the United Methodist Women?s Circle and

served as an officer for the District United Methodist Women, attending many church

conferences in Columbia for the UMW. She was a member of The Iris Garden Club and

loved gardening and growing her roses. Mrs. Thompson was the last surviving member

of her family of four brothers and three sisters and was also preceded in death by

her daughter, Mary Jo Thompson Ouzts. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Brooks

S. Stuart of Kiawah, SC and four grandchildren who loved her dearly, Teresa Stuart

Hough of Spartanburg, Ashley Stuart Lindsey of Erie, CO, Michael Winston Stuart of

Wilmington, NC and Leslie Ouzts; four great grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, May 10th at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. James D. Dennis,

Jr. and Dr. Ted Morton officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Michael Stuart, Billy Hough, Dr. Melvin Medlock, Travis Medlock,

Perry Thompson and Brooks S. Stuart.

 

1959 June W. H. Medlock / Laurens – Walter Henry Medlock, 78, of 302 Chestnut Street

died early Tuesday morning at a local hospital after an illness of four years. He was

a lifelong resident of Laurens County and a son of the late James Travis and Martha

Babb Medlock. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving are two sisters;

Mrs. Thomas D. Downey of Laurens and Mrs. Emma Pickens of Greenville. Graveside services

Wednesday at 11 o’clock at Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery near Ware Shoals. Family

requests that flowers be omitted. Kennedy Mortuary in charge. The family is in residence

at 302 Chestnut Street.

 

1963 Dec 4 Henry Townes Medlock of Greenwood SC , 80, died Wednesday at his home on 4

Oakhaven Court following a year’s illness. He was born in Edgefield and a son of the

late George W. and Mary Settles Medlock. He had lived in Greenwood for 34 years and a

member of the South Main Baptist Church. He leaves his wife Julia King Prescott Medlock;

son Henry T. Medlock Jr. of Zaragoza AFB Spain; stepdaughters Mrs. Ellen Averitt of San

Gabriel CA, Mrs. Ruth Edwards of Beaufort SC, Mrs, Edith Bryant of Atlanta. Burial will

be in the Willowbrook Cemetery of Edgefield. Harley Funeral Home.

 

Macie Medlock Lollis, 83, of 4 W. Fleming St., widow of Richard B. Lollis, died Friday,

Aug. 4, 2006 at her home. Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late Fletcher

C. and Annie Smith Medlock. She was retired from Riegel Textile, was a member of the

Quarter Century Club and an active member of Ware Shoals First Baptist Church where she

taught Sunday school for 56 years. She was a former director of WMU, Silver Lining Choir,

Prison Ministry, and Home Bound Ministry. Survivors include two daughters, Janice McDonald

of the home and Linda Simpson of Ware Shoals; a brother, Calvin ?Rusty? Medlock of McKinney,

Texas; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters. Services are 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist

Church, conducted by the Rev. Leon Jones. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

1927 June 2. There are four articles in the Laurens newspaper and Greenville newspaper

with details of Martha’s death. Terry Gladfelter at Carlg0139@aol.com combined the four.

Martha died Thursday evening June 2, 1927 at her home in Ware Shoals, Harmony Community.

Everyone called her “Grandmother Medlock”. She was nearly 90 years old, the longest

member of the Harmony Methodist Protestant Church. Her church pew had been empty nearly

3 years as she was an invalid. “Grandmother” leaves five daughters, three sons, two

stepdaughters.  Her surviving sons are JA and JB Medlock of Greenville, Walter H. Medlock

of Ware Shoals. Surviving daughters are Mrs. Monroe Pickens of Greenville, Mrs. Thomas

Downey of Laurens, Mrs. Lan Balentine, Sudie and Julia of Ware Shoals.  Surviving

stepdaughters are Miss Kate Medlock and Mrs. GB Taylor of Ware Shoals. “Grandmother” was

laid to rest in the Harmony churchyard on Saturday at 11:00 o’clock. Services conducted

by Pastor R. G. Cowen.

 

Sister of Mrs. Thomas Downey Passed Away Near Ware Shoals Monday Afternoon. Mrs. Sallie J.

Moore, a sister of Mrs. Thomas Downey, of this city, died at her home near Ware Shoals

Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock following a long illness. Funeral services were conducted

Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock by her pastor, Rev. EF Root, at Harmony Church, at which she

had been a member for many years. Mrs. Moore was 74 years of age. She is survived by the

following brothers and sisters: JB and JA Medlock, Greenville; WH Medlock, Ware Shoals;

Mrs. WH Balentine, Mrs GB Taylor, Misses Kate, Julia, Sudie Medlock, all of Ware Shoals;

Mrs. Monroe Pickens, Greenville, and Mrs. Thomas Downey, Laurens.

Aged Woman Dies Near Ware Shoals

Greenwood, June 25 – Mrs. Sallie J. Moore, a sister of the late James Travis Medlock (Jr.)

who was for many years president of the National Loan and Exchange Bank here, died at her

home near Ware Shoals Monday afternoon and was laid to rest in Harmony Church cemetery

Everette A. Medlock Retired City of Laurens Fireman

Everette Anderson Medlock, 80, of 318 Mill Street, Laurens, and the husband of Ruth

Tunstall Medlock, died May 25, 1998 at the National Health Care Center of Laurens.

Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Oscar C. and Maude Bramlett Medlock.

He was a retired fireman for the City of Laurens and a member of Laurens Second Baptist

Church, a Mason, Shriner a member and Past Master of Palmetto Lodge #19.Surviving are

his wife, Ruth Tunstall; two brothers, J. Carl Medlock and Joe B. Medlock, both of

Laurens. Services today at 3 o'clock at Second Baptist with burial to follow at Forest

Lawn Mausoleum. The family will be at their respective homes - Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens

 

John Carl Medlock, 89, of Martha Franks Baptist Center but formerly of 116 Lynn Ave,

Laurens, died 26 February 2001 at the center. he was the husband of Lucille Sprouse.

He was born in Laurens County, the son of the late Oscar C. and Maude Bramblette

Medlock. He was a WWII veteran and a rural mail carrier for 29 years, member of

Laurens Second Baptist church, a Mason, a Shriner, Hejaz Shrine Temple, and Palmetto

Lodge #19. Grave side services were conducted Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Kennedy

Clinton - Alma Medlock Harvey, 92, formerly of Peachtree Street, died Friday December 31,

1999 at National Health Care Center in Laurens. She was born in Gainesville, GA and was a

daughter of the late Newton W. and Claudia Belle Smart Medlock. She retired from Clinton

Mills, Lydia Plant. She was the oldest member of Lydia Baptist Church. Surviving are a

son Jesse Harvey of Clinton and a daughter Hazel Turner of Mt. Airy, GA. She was

predeceased by a son Charles William Harvey. Funeral services were conducted Monday

January 3 at Gray Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Rosemont Cemetery.


LAURENS, SC-- Joseph Bramlett Medlock, 82, of Martha Franks Baptist  Retirement Center,

died Monday, August 9, 2004. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Oscar and

Maude Bramlett Medlock and the husband of the late Frances Doll Mills Medlock. He served

in the U. S. Army during World War II, Infantry Division #85 and was Post Commander of 

Veterans of Foreign Wars #3354, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and  the

American Legion Post #25 in Laurens. He was extremely active in his community and state,

serving as Mayor of  Laurens from 1950-1958. At that time, the office was for two years,

he was the  first elected mayor to serve four terms, and at the age of 27, he was also

the youngest mayor in South Carolina. In 1991-1992, he was President of SCARE-SC 

Association of Registered Elected Officials, and a member of the Laurens City  Election

Commission. In 1977, he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the  Rural Water

Advisory Board, a first-ever appointment from Laurens County. He  received honorable

mention as a Jefferson Award Nominee. He served Laurens  County as Chief Baliff in Criminal

Court for 42 years. He was a member of the Adah Chapter #6 of the Eastern Star for 50 plus

years. Long active as a Mason,  he was Worshipful Master of the Palmetto Lodge #19, served

as High Priest of the  Rising Sun Chapter #6, and member of the SC Council #20 Knights Mason.

In 1984,  he received the Certificate of Merit, 2nd highest award in Masonry. As member of 

the York Rite, he was Past Commander, Past Illustrious Master, and Past High  Priest,

receiving the highest honor bestowed on a York Rite Member, (KYCH)  Knight of the York Cross

of Honor. As a Shriner, and member of the Laurens  County Shrine Club, he had served as

President, and in 1976, was elected  Potentate of the Hejaz Temple. In 1987, the Laurens

Exchange Club honored him  with the Book of Golden Deeds. The Laurens Jaycees recognized him

as Young Man  of the Year in 1985, and in 1988, the Woodmen of the World awarded him the

honor  of Top Citizen. For many years, he was a baseball umpire and auctioneer. He was a

lifelong member of Second Baptist Churchand served as Trustee for  many years. Mr. Medlock

was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is  survived by one sister-in-law,

Mrs. Carl Lucille Medlock of Laurens; and brother  and sister-in-law, Freddie and William H.

Mills, Jr. of Newberry; other nieces,  nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be 11:00

a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at Forest  Lawn Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. J. D.

Shiflet, Pastor of Second Baptist  Church and Dr. Russell Dean of Martha Franks Baptist

Retirement Center. Masonic  Rites will follow by Palmetto Masonic Lodge #19. Visitation will

be after the  graveside service. Honorary escort will be Past Potentates of the Hejaz Temple,

members of  Laurens County Shrine Club, and the Knights of the King Sunday School Class of

John Carl Medlock, 89, formerly of 116 Lynn Ave., presently of Martha Frank Baptist Retirement

Center, and husband of Lucille Sprouse Medlock, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the center. Born

in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Oscar C. and Maude Bramlett Medlock. He was a U.S.

Army veteran of World War II and retired rural mail carrier with 29 years of service. He was a

member of Laurens Second Baptist Church, a Mason, Shriner, member of Hejaz Shrine Temple and

Palmetto Lodge No. 19. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Sprouse Medlock of the center; one

daughter and son-in-law, Kay Frances and the Rev. Marion E. Ringer of Lexington; one brother,

Joe B. Medlock of Laurens; a sister-in-law, Ruth Medlock of Laurens; two grandchildren, Michael

Ringer and Katherine R. Pyles; and three greatgrandchildren. Graveside services will be held at

4 p.m. today, Feb. 27, 2001, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Thomas T. Faucette

and Dr. Russell Dean.

 

Lucile Banks Medlock, 94, of 7 N. Garden Circle, formerly of 14 Sturtevant St. (Brandon), died

Friday, August 9, 2002. Born in Anderson County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John

Samuel and Cora Lockaby Banks and the widow of F. M. Medlock. Mrs. Medlock was a homemaker and

a member of Southside Assembly of God. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara M. Gilstrap of

Greenville; son and daughter-in-law M. Douglas and Marion Medlock of Easley; a sister, Mrs.

Bernice Smith of Manteca, Calif.; 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation will

be today from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The service, conducted

by the Rev. Randell Atkins and assisted by the Rev. Walter Dixon, will be held Monday at 3 p.m.

at Southside Assembly of God, with interment in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

James Ryland Medlock, 60, of 111 Central Ave., husband of Eugenia Gilmer Medlock, died Friday,

April 11, 2003, at Anderson Area Medical Center. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of

Mattie Whitt Medlock, of Princeton, and the late Joseph Ryland Medlock. He was retired after

36 1/2 years from Solutia of Greenwood. He was a member of Belton Pentecostal Holiness Church

and Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his wife, of the home; his mother, of Princeton; two

sons, Rickey Medlock, and wife, Libby, of Pelzer, and Brad Medlock, and wife, Sherry, of

Taylors; one brother, George Lorann Medlock, of Princeton; four sisters, Geraleen Crawford and

Clarice Allen and Darlene Hendricks, all of Princeton, and Linda Hall, of Spartanburg; and

three grandchildren, Brandon Medlock and Kari Medlock, of Pelzer, and Joseph Ryland Medlock,

of Taylors. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Belton Pentecostal Holiness Church,

with the Rev. Dennis Bardin, the Rev. Tony Smith and the Rev. Sherrill Green officiating. Burial

will follow at Garden of Memories.


Virginia Phillips Medlock, 72, widow of Fred Medlock, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at McDowell

Nursing Home in Nebo, N.C. Survivors: Daughters, Sandra M. Gossett of Spartanburg, and Ellen Vess

of Beaufort; sons, Thomas Medlock Jr. of St. Helen's Island, William Medlock of Campobello, James

Medlock of Beaufort, and Keith Medlock of Spartanburg; two sisters; a brother; and a number of

Mrs. Medlock of 806 Five Forks Road, widow of Heyward "Punk" Medlock, died Friday Dec. 3, 2004,

at St. Francis Hospital.Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Redmond,

Sr. and Edna Inez Patterson Brooks. She was retired from Woodside Mill and was a member of

Golden Grove Wesleyan Church.Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Ann Norris of Kingston, Tenn.,

and Wanda Waters of Piedmont; sons, Randall Revis of Easley, Ben Revis of Clover, and Harvey

Revis of Liberty; brothers, Bill Brooks and Bradley Brooks of Easley, Jerry Brooks, Richard

Brooks and Vince Brooks, all of Liberty; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great

grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, James Revis, two sisters, Marion Fowler and Sybil

Stewart, and a brother, W. R. Brooks, Jr.

James Anderson Otis Medlock, 85, of Greenville, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004.Born in Ware Place,

he was the son of the late James Earl and Bonnie Pearl Traynham Medlock. He was predeceased by

his wife, Naomi Rochelle Moore Medlock.He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas

R. and Kay Medlock, of Greenville, and R. Gary and Anne Medlock, of Greer; a brother, James

Earl Medlock Jr., and his wife, Mary, of Ladson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He worked 37 years as a switchman for Southern Railway and 15 years with American Security. He

was a retired member of the Railroad Retirement Association and served as Scoutmaster for Boy

Scout Troop 183 from 1951-1969.He was of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints faith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will

be Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, with burial to

follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Jim Medlock, 90, of 2551 Midland Park Road, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at White Oak Manor.

Mr. Medlock was born in Greenville County, the son of the late Barney Brazil and Maggie Bell Davis

Medlock. He was retired from Ballenger Paving and was a member of Dorchester Waylon Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley M. Hicks, of Cement, Oklahoma; a son, John Gerald Medlock, of

North Charleston; two sisters, Ruby M. Whitfield, of Greenville and Marie M. Davis, of Pelzer; eight

grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased

by two wives, Bertha Medlock and Ann Medlock.


Mr. William Ansel Medlock, age 72, husband of Edith "Peggy" Bryant Medlock of 2904 Beechwood Parkway,

Anderson, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at his residence. Born in Greenville County, on Jan. 9, 1933,

Mr. Medlock was a son of the late Lude Medlock and Corrine Lollis Medlock. He was retired from Owens

Corning Fiberglas with 28 years of service. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church in Princeton,

Barney Medlock of Princeton, and Grover Medlock of Taylors; sisters, Doris Brooks of Honea Path, Thelma

Williams of Hickory Tavern, and Orabell Clinkscales of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Khristine Medlock

Grant of Anderson, and Allen Medlock of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Gabrel Browning, Thomas

Browning and Abigail Medlock; and a close friend, Chris Ramsey.In addition to his parents, he was

preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Medlock Brown. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14,

2005, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Ken Whitt.

Interment will follow in Garden of Memories in Belton.

 

Frances Mills "Doll" Medlock, aged 61, of Route 1 Lick Creek Road, Waterloo, wife of Joe B. Medlock,

died at home January 29, 1994. She was born in Laurens to William Henry and Maydell Bishop Mills. She

retired from the SC Highway Department and Laurens District School System. She was a member of the

Waterloo Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Rosemont Garden Club Mrs. Medlock will be

placed in the Waterloo Methodist Church at 1:00 pm Monday. Burial in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Laurens.

Annie Mae Cannon Bagwell died 18 January 1993 at the Laurens Hospital. She was 83 and the widow of

DeWitt Bagwell and the d/o William A. and Mary Elizabeth Medlock Cannon. She resided at 19 Tallwood

Homes in Clinton. She was born in Ware Shoals and a former employee of Clinton Mills and a member

of Calvary Baptist Church. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday in Rosemont Cemetery -

Gray Funeral Home of Clinton.

Lewis E. Medlock, 70, of Mount Tabor community, died Tuesday at his home. He was a native of Laurens

County, son of the late N. W. and Claudia Belle Smart Medlock. He was a veteran of World War I and

a member of Princeton Baptist Church.Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Alma Harvey of Clinton, 2 half-

sisters, Mrs. W. B. Smith of Savannah, Ga. and Mrs. Carlton Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a

stepsister, Mrs. C. B. Langford of Whitmire; and 6 brothers, John Medlock of Clinton, L. G. Medlock

of Joanna, Fred Medlock of Jacksonville, W. C. Medlock of Whitmire, and Lewis and James Medlock of

Newberry. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 P M at Gray Funeral Home, Clinton, by

the Rev. Olin L. Martin. Burial will be in Princeton Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be

John W. (Wesley) Medlock, 79, formerly of 30 Peachtree St., Lydia Mill, Clinton, widower of Gladys

Harvey Medlock, died Saturday in Spartanburg in Lakeview Nursing Center. A native of Belton, he was

a son of N. W. and Claudia Belle Smart Medlock, and was a retired mechanic. Surviving are one brother,

Luther G. Medlock of Joanna; three half-brothers, Fred Medlock of Union; Lewis Medlock of Whitmire

and James Medlock of Newberry; one sister, Mrs. Alma Harvey of Clinton; one half-sister, Mrs. W. B.

Smith of Savannah, Ga. Services will be held Monday (today) at 2 p.m. at Gray Funeral Chapel, Clinton,

with burial at Princeton Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's

Ruby Turner Medlock, aged 80, and the widow of Luther G. Medlock, died 13 March

1993 at her home on 427 Blalock Drive, Joanna. Born in Saluda County she was the

daughter of Tom and Mary Jane Butler Turner. She retired from the Blalock Plant

of Greenwood Mills and was a member of the Joanna Church of God. Services were

conducted Monday at the Joanna Church of God with interment at Pinelawn Memory

Luther G. Medlock, aged 85, died 24 July 1990 at Laurens County Hospital. He was

the husband of Ruby Turner Medlock and born in Georgia to William Newton and

Claudie Bell Smart Medlock. He retired from the Blalock Plant of Greenwood Mills,

a trustee and charter member of the Joanna Church of God. Services were conducted

at 2 pm at the Joanna Church of God with interment at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.

N. W. Medlock, age 87, died Friday afternoon at 3:46 at Laurens County Hospital in

South Carolina after a heart attack. Mr. Medlock, a resident of Brooklet, lived

near Whitmire, SC, with his son for the past year or two where he was receiving

treatment. He was a son of the late James and Sally Lollis Medlock. He was a retired

farmer and a member of the First Assembly Church of God in Savannah. He made his home

in Brooklet for a number of years. Besides his wife, Mrs. Sallie Smith Medlock of

Brooklet, he is survived by seven sons, Edgar Medlock of Aiken, SC, John Medlock of

Lidia Mills, SC, Luther Medlock of Joanna, SC, Cullen Medlock of Greenville, SC, Fred

Medlock of Jacksonville, FL, Lewis A. Medlock of Whitmire, SC, James Medlock of

Newberry, SC.; four daughters; Mrs. Alma Harvey of Lidia Mills, SC, Mrs. W.B. Smith

of Savannah, Mrs. Carlton Anderson of Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. C. B.Langford of Whitmire,

SC; two step sons, W. B. Smith of Savannah, and C. W. Smith of Brooklet; a step daughter,

Mrs. Olivia Newsome of Statesboro; two brothers, Lewis Medlock of Princeton, SC, Robert

Medlock of Arcadia Mills, SC,; two sisters, Mrs. Jannie Hill of Lidia Mills, SC, Mrs.

Emma Knight of Honea Path, SC; 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral

services were held Sunday at 2:30 P.M. in Whitmire. Ministers Abecrumbie and Davenport

officiating. Pallbearers were: Ellis Sharpe, James Hancock, Larry Medlock, Leroy Brock,

Charles Harvey and J. Richey. McSwain funeral Home of Newberry, SC, was in charge of the

funeral. Newton is buried at the Princeton Baptist Church Cemetery in Princeton, Laurens,
