1915 Oct 18 - Death of Joel H. Matlock of Seymour,
Indiana, a leading citizen of
Jackson
County, died at 6:00 p.m.
this evening. He was a
banker, a prominent
Democrat and an
ardent worker for the
Methodist
Church. Mr. Matlock was president
of the Jackson
Loan & Trust Company.
Born in Jackson
County 68 years ago. At 16
years he enlisted in
the 120th Regiment of
Indiana Volunteers serving two years
and part of
that time with
Sherman's troops. After the war he returned to
Seymour.
He was Auditor of Jackson
County and then moved to Indianapolis in 1896
where he
organized a
construction company.
Four years later he
returned to Seymour. He had
interest in the Seymour Mutual
Telephone Company,
Schweck
Memorial
Hospital and a
Trustee of the Farmer's Club. In 1896 he
was co-chair of the
Democratic Party and
a
Delegate to the National
Convention. Death was
due to kidney disease.
He is
survived by one son and four daughters. Funeral to
be held on Wednesday.

Feb. 21, 1839.
In 1848 he settled in
Salt Creek twp., on the
farm now owned by John
W. Lutes' heirs, where
he resided until 1874
when he removed to
Kansas.
His aged
widow
and 8 children survive
him. His son, Joel H.
Matlock, is the present
auditor
of this county.

Burial will be in the
Holy
Cross
Cemetery in Calumet City.
Surviving: Sons: Stanley of Hammond, Steve of Calumet City, John and Walter and
