1957 March 8 Clarence A. Medlock  Plymouth, Fulton Co IN
Final rites for Clarence A. MEDLOCK, 54, Plymouth, who owned the Medlock Sandwich Shop at 614

Main street here, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Danielson and VanGilder funeral home in

Plymouth. The Rev. Wallace E. JONES will officiate and burial will be in the Memorial Gardens

cemetery at Plymouth. Mr. Medlock, who also owned the White House Hamburger Shop in Plymouth,

died at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Norman Beatty Memorial hospital. A resident of Plymouth

for the last 16 years, Mr. Medlock was a member of Kilwinning Lodge 149, Order of the Eastern

Star 28 and the Christian church. He was born on March 11, 1902, in Larkinsburg, Kan., to William

and Effie MEDLOCK. On April 28, 1927, he was married to Velma CRISINGER, who survives.

Other survivors are two daughters, Ms. Jean MURPHY, Rochester, and Mrs. LaVeta SCOFIELD, Elkhart;

a sister, Mrs. Iva ANDERSON, Horton, Kan., and two grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral

1880 Dec 2- Matlock, Martha--Miss Martha Matlock died Wed. of burns received Tues.

when her clothing caught fire while she was lighting a lamp at home of John

McNelly, where she had been employed as a domestic for a yr. or more. The

remains were taken to Little York, Wash. Co., today, where her mother resides,

for interment. She could have been 18 yrs. old on the 22nd. (Thurs., Dec. 2.

JACKSON COUNTY

 

1915 Oct 18 - Death of Joel H. Matlock of Seymour, Indiana, a leading citizen of

Jackson County, died at 6:00 p.m. this evening. He was a banker, a prominent

Democrat and an ardent worker for the Methodist Church. Mr. Matlock was president

of the Jackson Loan & Trust Company. Born in Jackson County 68 years ago. At 16

years he enlisted in the 120th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers serving two years

and part of that time with Sherman's troops. After the war he returned to Seymour.

He was Auditor of Jackson County and then moved to Indianapolis in 1896 where he

organized a construction company. Four years later he returned to Seymour. He had

interest in the Seymour Mutual Telephone Company, Schweck Memorial Hospital and a

Trustee of the Farmer's Club. In 1896 he was co-chair of the Democratic Party and

a Delegate to the National Convention. Death was due to kidney disease. He is

survived by one son and four daughters. Funeral to be held on Wednesday.

Matlock, George-- who died at his residence in Toronto, Kan., April 11, was born in

east Tenn., March 11, 1818, and with his parents came and settled in Jackson Co.,

Ind., in 1831, on the tract of land know as the Peck farm. He married Betsy Weddle,

Feb. 21, 1839. In 1848 he settled in Salt Creek twp., on the farm now owned by John

W. Lutes' heirs, where he resided until 1874 when he removed to Kansas. His aged

widow and 8 children survive him. His son, Joel H. Matlock, is the present auditor

of this county. (April 17)

1956 Jan 20 - Mrs. Rose Matlock, 70, of 5014 Northcote Avenue in East Chicago,

died after a short illness. Born in Poland, she was a resident of East Chicago

for 50 years, a member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union # 413, the American

Legion Post # 369. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City.

Surviving: Sons: Stanley of Hammond, Steve of Calumet City, John and Walter and

Julian of East Chicago. Daughters: Mrs. Mary Glinski of Highland, Mrs. Stephanie

Sierkoski and Mrs. Stella Zabowski of East Chicago. Brother: Joseph Wrobel of

Poland. Services at St. Stanislaus Church. Lesniak Funeral Home in charge.

 

MONROE COUNTY

 

1877 Sept 5 George W. Matlock, whose farm lies about two miles northeast of 

Bloomington, died at his home of paralysis on Sunday a week ago, and was

buried at Bethel church graveyard beside his wife who died just threes weeks

previously.  One of his sons, who resides in Ill, arrived on Wednesday last

in time to attend the funeral. (Republican Progress, Bloomington, IN pg 3)

 

1928 Jan 23-Police believe Ellis A. Medlock, whose charred body was found tied

to a tree near Bloomington, Ind., was killed by hijackers. (Wisconsin Rapids

2005 Jan 21 - James Thomas Matlock, 87, of Rushville was born 19 Apr 1917 in

Monroe County and died 18 Jan 2005. He was the son of James Harry and Nellie

Mae Smith Matlock. He lived in Monroe county until 1966 when he moved to

Rushville county. He was a veteran and member of the Mt. Gilead Christian

Church in Bloomington. He is survived by wife Nancy Ann Cover Matlock who he

married on 15 Dec 1984, niece Betty Lou Coller and David of Brown county,

nephew Bobby Naylor of Bloomington. He was buried at East Hill Cemetery in
