The Mountain Echo, April 1, 1904 Issue: Uncle Smith MATLOCK, one of the oldest

The Mountain Echo, January 17, 1957 Issue: Frank MATLOCK Dies Monday In Harrison, Ark. Frank

MATLOCK is dead! The tall, broad-shouldered deep-voiced owner of Matlock Cave on Highway 14

passed away Monday, Jan. 14, at the Boone County Hospital in Harrison where he was taken 40

days ago after he suffered a broken hip received in an accidental fall. Mr. MATLOCK was 76

years of age and had been unusually active until a few months ago when ill health forced him

to use a cane as he walked around. He had been living alone since his wife died several years

ago but he delighted in showing visitors the Matlock Cave on his property South of Yellville.

Occasionally he would spend the night with neighbors. On Thursday, Dec. 7, Mr. MATLOCK decided

to spend the night with Tom RAGSDALE in the New Hope Community. He fell, inflicting serious

injury. X-rays showed his hip was broken and he was taken to the Hospital in Harrison. Services

Held Wednesday. Funeral services were held yesterday, (Wednesday), Jan. 14, at two o'clock at

the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. M. L. Kaylor officiating. Burial was in the

Pleasant Ridge cemetery with the Yellville Funeral Home in charge. Mr. MATLOCK leaves one

daughter, Mrs. Gladys WARREN of Gelana Park, Texas; one son, Bill MATLOCK of Shreveport, La.;

a twin brother, Leonard MATLOCK of Hot Springs, Ark., and one sister, Mrs. May PATTERSON of

Kansas City, Mo. Mr. MATLOCK had lived his entire life in Marion County, having been born here

August 5, 1881.

The Mountain Echo, September 10, 1965 Issue: MATLOCK Rites At Pleasant Ridge. Leonard MATLOCK,

84, died Sept. 27 at a nursing home in Hot Springs. He was born near Yellville August 5, 1881

to Smith and Margaret HAMM MATLOCK. He never married. While living here he farmed and raised

stock. Later he went to Oklahoma and California, returning to Arkansas in 1952 to make his home

at Hot Springs. Only survivors are nieces and nephews which include Mrs. James JOHNSON and Mrs.

Dallas KYLES of Yellville. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant

Ridge Church with the Rev. Rayburn Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery.

Pallbearers were Floyd BURROW, L. G. CLEM, Troy FAULKENBERRY, Robert MITCHELL, Walter BRIDGES

and Carl KEETER. Holt-Burnes Funeral Home made local arrangements.

The Mountain Echo, September 25, 1935 Issue: Will MATLOCK. Mr. Will MATLOCK who resided a few

miles south of Yellville on highway 14, after a prolonged illness, passed away at his home

last Sunday morning. Surviving is his wife, many relatives and a host of friends. His body was

laid to rest Monday in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery, Rev. H. J. Harger conducting the funeral

services. Mr. MATLOCK was a good citizen, and will be greatly missed in the community where he

spent his life. The Echo joins the many friends of the family in extending heart-felt sympathies.

The Mountain Echo, September 15, 1921 Issue: Judge Sanford MATLOCK. Judge Sam MATLOCK was born

near Salem, Dent County, Mo., January 9th, 1855, and died September 9th, 1921, at his home near

Pleasant Ridge church, in Cowan barrens. He leaves six children and a host of friends to mourn

his loss. The large number who attended his funeral was evidence of the high esteem in which he

was held. The Judge, first of all, was devoted to his family which speaks well for any man. Then

he was a Christian gentleman, holding firmly to that he deemed right. He upheld the church and

was a regular attendant on religious services. Home was dearest place to him, and next, came

Pleasant Ridge Church. He was a useful, public man, and at the time of his death he was our

efficient County judge. He has gone to a better land and bye-and-bye, we shall see him again.

On Saturday, September 10th, we laid him away in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery in the presence of

a large congregation. Religious services were conducted by the writer, his pastor, and with

Masonic honors his body was interred to await the resurrection of the just. I. L. Claud. [Also]

Judge MATLOCK Dead. The many friends of Judge MATLOCK throughout the county were grieved to learn

of his death which occurred on Thursday night of last week. Several weeks ago he suffered an attack

of typhoid fever, and being over anxious to get out and look after the duties of his office as

county judge he, against the advice of his friends, got out before he was really able to do so.

An abscess developed on his right lung which caused his death. He was serving his second term as

County judge, and his whole soul was in the discharge of the duties of the office, and his friends

regret that he could not live to serve out his term. The Echo joins his many friends in extending

sympathies to the bereaved relatives.
