1795 Feb Term The State vs John
Hilburn for cow stealing.. The Jury being called and
empanelled.. Alexander Crosson, Joseph Cook, Abraham Anderson, Van Davis, Joseph Reagan,
Christian Wedenman, Samuel Caldwell, Mathias Rinehart, John Richardson, Jacob Halfface,
Jeremiah Piley and Robert Johnson who find the def'd guilty the charge
committed against
him. Robert Johnson forman. wherefore ordered that the said
Prisoner be remanded back to
the Goal by the sheriff. On Thursday March 5 1795 the court met
and was called according
to adjournment. Present: James Mayson, R Brown, Levi
Casey... The State vs John Hilburn..
On an indictment. The prisoner being
committed to the Barr whereupon the court proceeded
to Judgment and find the
said Prisoner in the sum of 10 sterling to be paid the present
day before the
setting of the sun, which if paid to be discharge and if not paid to
receive
thirty-nine stripes or lashes on the bareback at the publick whipping post of
this county will be laid on by the sheriff.
