1856 March 28 Will of Lewis Hedge State of Tennessee,
Dickson County March 28, 1856, I, Lewis Hedge
of the county and state aforesaid, being weak in
body, but of sound mind, do call to mind that it
is once appointed for all men to die, I do therefore
acknowledge this instrument to be my last will
and testament in the name of God, Amen.
It is my will, that my beloved wife Elizabeth Hedge,
shall
select such articles of my perishable property as she
may think needful for her and her children to
subsist on comfortably, and after this I want
what property remains to be sold at public sale at
twelve month’s credit, and the money that the
property brings, I want to be collected, and out of
this money I want my debts paid off. And after that,
I want the remainder, if any, to be equally
divided between my wife Elizabeth Hedge and her four
children, to wit, Sarah Aline, William Cowall,
James Petty, and Mary Emily. These are the names of
the four children I wish my wife to keep enough
provisions to do her and the four children for
the term of twelve months.
It is my will and wish that
my brother W. F. B. Hedge should be Executor to wind
up all my business, and to see that my will and
wishes should be faithfully carried out,
agreeable to this instrument. In witness whereof, I have
hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this day and
date first above written. Test: G. W. Few, William
Hedge. Lewis (X) Hedge.
Will was proven in open court at the June term of
1856, and recorded on the
12th day of July 1856. Thomas McNeilly, Clerk
