1 THOMAS BYRD I and his wife Jane "Unknown" appear to have been the Byrds that were involved
in the Cherokee capture of Jane in Halifax/Pittsylvania in 1759 as recorded in Pittsylvania
History. This is based upon Standifer and Shoate being their neighbor (1767 tithe listing)
and Byrd running next door the the Standifer house and then Shoate getting involved in the
Indian fight also. Since Thomas I was married at the time 1759, I would guess his birth date
to be 1739 or before. This would mean that he was at least 24 years old when his daughter
Polly who married John Rule/Ryule was born in 1763 and at least 21 years old if his son
Thomas II was born in 1760 which would be the earliest he could have been born according to
census records. Thomas I would have been 66 years old or older when he died in 1805. (Info
